3 Essential Steps To Take Before Your Moving Day

Will you be moving soon? Are you making a list to ensure that you've gotten everything done that needs to be done? No matter how much planning people do, moving day may still be a hectic experience. But it isn't always that way and the more planning you do, the easier things are on yourself and your family. By doing a few things ahead of time, you can help ensure that your moving day will go as smoothly as possible. Some of the most important things to do include the following.

1. Pack your knick-knacks: Smaller things are often forgotten in midst of a move. As soon as possible, go through your home and start packing up your household treasures. This includes pictures on the wall, small figurines, and anything else that is small and easily forgotten.

As moving day approaches, you can move on to the bigger items so that your entire home is packed and ready on the big day. Not only does this ensure that everything is packed up, but it also helps to ensure that you have sufficient moving supplies to complete the move. If you should run out of boxes towards the end, you'll have plenty of time to go out and buy more.

2. Hire a company: Although there are many moving companies that will do the entire move, including packing and unpacking, you needn't pay for any packing if you don't want to. However, it's still a good idea to have one of your local moving companies at least do everything else.

Unlike unpaid friends and relatives, moving companies will show up on time and ready to do whatever moving needs to be done. They also won't flake out halfway through the move when they suddenly remember a forgotten appointment or get told that nobody else is available to pick up their kid from school.

3. Get a storage unit: Whether you've moving long-distance or just across town, it's a good idea to have a storage unit standing by. Some long-distance moving companies will offer a temporary storage place while you deal with any delays related to getting into your new home, but local moving companies won't have the same offer.

If there is an issue with the carpets or a burst pipe in your new place that needs to be fixed before you can move in, you'll need to find somewhere to keep your stuff until you're able to actually move in. While you might hate the thought of paying for a month or two of something that you never actually need, consider it like paying for home or auto insurance that protects you in the event of an accident.
